Since my furnace is 200' from my house I wanted to save money on the
installation. So I built boxes out of Styrofoam. I used 1.5"
(R7.5) Styrofoam SM for underground use and wrapped everything in 6mil poly for
extra moisture protection. The trench is 7" wide, 2' deep in most
places, 3' deep under the roads.
This is part of my wood supply for the winter. The slabs on the left are off-cuts from a saw
mill. The logs in the back and stacked on the right
are drying for next year.

My stove in operation. I worked my way through 4 cords of slabs and 4
cords of poplar logs this winter, up to the end of March. I plan on
running the furnace through the summer to supply my hot water. I keep it
filled so the wood is very dry by the time it burns down to the
bottom.
